Report from Gerry O’Neill, Chairman, Kilmihil GAA club

The Annual General Meeting of Kilmihil GAA Club will be held on Sunday 8th January 2006 at the Community Centre at 5.00 p.m.

The G.A.A. plays an important role in the life of the community and it is an essential part of our

culture and identity. For a club to function successfully it needs players, mentors, club officers, finance and the support of the community. You can provide support in different ways, by supporting our fundraising activities, by getting involved as an officer or by assisting club officers when asked.

While the GAA enjoys strong support from the community this is not fully reflected in the level of attendance at the AGM. Many supporters have the impression that the AGM is only for players and officers and may feel that they would not be welcome to attend. This is a misconception and I would like to assure you that you are welcome to attend. Kindly accept this letter as your personal invitation to attend and observe first hand exactly what is involved in running the club. Please note that only paid up members are entitled to vote at the AGM.

Review of 2005

We set out at the beginning of the year to win the Intermediate Championship under the management of Pat Garry and his fellow selectors, Michael Lineen and Gerry Downes. We reached the final but the weather conditions on the day coupled with their superior physical strength gave Ennistymon the edge. However we finished the year on a positive note in winning the U21 B Championship.

The social highlight of the year was the 25th Anniversary Dinner Dance held at the Auburn Lodge on 26`h November at which we honored the team that won our one and only Senior Championship in 1980. The U21 team were presented with their medals on the night also.                                                                          ‘

Well we weren’t good enough to beat a strong Ennistymon team in fine bur near gale force conditions at Quilty. But the result was overshadowed by the horrific leg break of our wing back Thomas Coughlan. We wish him a speedy recovery. Kilmihil elected to play against the wind in the first half. They held out for 15 minutes but then Ennistymon scored 2-2 in a few minutes. The half time score was 2-5 to 0-1. In the second half Kilmihil tried hard but the accident to Thomas Coughlan held up play for 10 minutes and broke the rhythm of the game. Ennistymon scored one point in the second half but we could only manage six and five were from frees. We now have to face our fourth third out of senior ranks. Final score Ennistymon 2-6 to 0-7.
